1949: Lundstroms of Kewa

In 1949, Ray Lundstrom owned a ranch in Kewa, near Whitestone, with his wife Cecil and daughter Gay (Gail). Charles and Avanel Denison worked for him as newlyweds. Breaking wild horses was part of the fun. The Lundstroms homesteaded in the Hell's Gate Game Reserve area, where they raised cattle and horses.

A profile of Gay:

Gay was the matriarch of the local Ragan family, which included Steve, Clint, Glen and Sharon. She grew up as an only child on her parents' ranch, now known as Hell's Gate Game Refuge. She loved riding horses, painting and taking pictures. Because there were no schools in the area she grew up in, she would stay with relatives in Spokane, where she went on to graduate from North Central High School. Gay, of Colville, died after a long battle with multiple sclerosis in 2014.
