Sept. 4, 2001: Making a pitch to repeat — Jacolby Simpson is back to help Inchelium's drive for a second consecutive state championship

Going for two: Quarterback Jacolby Simpson, an all league performer last year and all-state defensive back, is back to help Inchelium's drive for a second consecutive state championship. The Hornets defeated league-rival Odessa in the state championship last year.

Returning all-league players: Clancy Hoffman, OL, all-state; Jacolby Simpson, QB-DB, all-state DB; John Swan, DE, all-state; Chris Burch, LB, all-state

Outlook: Inchelium returns enough firepower — Simpson threw 1,775 yards and 31 TDs, Burch ran for 659 yards and caught 42 passes for 791 — to be a strong favorite but it should be a battle to fill out the playoffs, especially with Odessa, who moved up to B-11 this year, gone. Columbia has 13 starters returning. And Cusick's Jake Kirk ran for more than 1,500 yards as a junior.
