County needs good roads, says R.R. Coleman
Mines show marked activity -- much development work being done
"Business is good at Inchelium and the prospects for that part of the state were never brighter than at present," said R.R. Coleman, a merchant of Inchelium at the Victoria yesterday. Mr Coleman was a state representative at the last session of the legislature.
"Lack of roads is the main handicap of our district," continued Mr. Coleman. "In some districts they say their roads are bad, but we have no roads at all from Springdale to Inchelium. The people are anxious that a road connecting Inchelium with Springdale will be built next year and in order to present our case sent me as a delegate to the good roads meeting.
"We look for much activity in mining around Inchelium and Meteor next spring. All of the prospects carry high silver values in these days of a high market for silver, capital is being attracted to the district.
"There are four claims, the Meteor, Gwinn, Montana and Hercules, close to Inchelium on which considerable money has been spent in development. All of the properties carry high silver values, also gold and the Gwinn has some copper.
"The Montana is now working five men and shipping ore. The property is improved with a compressor. Work will start next week on the Gwinn. More than $100,000 has been expended in development work on this property and the improvements include a power plant, concentrator and compressor.
"The principal stockholder int he Gwinn is Peter Proff of Rosalia. The Montana is owned by CL Fish of Spokane and WL Pea of Inchelium."
