Aug, 25, 1931: Rancher drowns at Kettle Falls

KETTLE FALLS - The swirling waters of the Columbia River at the falls a mile north of here yesterday claimed the life of George Morsolek, 40, Chewelah, who had come to the falls with his family for a picnic and to fish.

The tragedy was witnessed by Cashmere St. Paul, Indian, who through an interpreter, Pete Lemery, related the facts. The Indian said Morsolek slipped on a slanting rock and pitched forward into a swirling eddy. He never came up.

The sheriff's office at Colville was notified and deputies were sent to the scene, but could do nothing. It is believed the body will be recovered before a week. Ferrymen on the river have been warned to be on the lookout for the body, which is expected to show up between here and Inchelium.
