-Richest costumes in Northwest to be seen here at state fair
Some of the finest Indian costumes in the Spokane country will be worn by members of the four leading Indian tribes of the northwest at the Spokane Interstate Fair, Sept. 6 to 6. J.P. Reed of Inchelium, on the Colville Reservation, was named yesterday by President Thomas S. Griffith of the Interstate Fair Association as superintendent of the Indian village for the fair next month. Mr. Reed, who was here yesterday, said that more than 100 Indians — men, women and papooses — will come from the Colville Reservation to the fair, and that there will be representatives from the Nez Perce, Spoken, Coeur d'Alene and Flathead tribes.
"We are going to have sufficient quarters to take care of all who come," said Mr. Reed, "and I expect there will be from 250 to 300 Indians in all. At the great Indian show at Inchelium July 4 we had some of the most valuable costumes now in possession of northwestern Indians. Many of the costumes, valued from $300 to $500, will be shown at the fair.
"On Labor day a feature of the afternoon program before the grandstand will be an Indian costume parade.
"The dances put on during the week will include the sun dance."
