A. Rennie has been appointed school director to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of H.G. Parmeter who recently moved to Inchelium.
H.G. Parmeter was in Covada a few days before Christmas settling some business before leaving for South Bend where he spent the holidays with his parents.
Mrs. Howe, the chairman of our Red Cross committee, sent a large package of clothing this week for Belgian relief.
Mrs. Lewis Weston, formerly Miss Gladys Curry, visited her uncle L.B. Curry last week. Her husband came from Camp Lewis on a short furlough. They returned to Rice the day before Christmas with Mrs. Weston's father, John Curry. Serg. Lewis Weston was stationed at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, before coming to Camp Lewis. While at Pearl Harbor he obtained a souvenir from the German battle ship Geier which was interned there. In February, 1917, when war was declared the German crew tried to destroy the Geier. Serg. Roy Stretch was among the marines who removed the crew and an extra one hundred Germans who were not supposed to be on board. They were turned over to the U.S. Army station as prisoners of war.
