KALISPELL - Charles Michel, brought back from Ferry County, Washington, to answer to a charge of killing Ed Burgoin at Polson, was arraigned before Judge Pomeroy and asked delay of twenty-four hours in which to plead.
Michel walked all the way from Polson to Inchelium in northern Ferry county, was five days without food of any sort and lived off the country in transit, according to his statement.
He said that the only real money he had during the 30 days required to make the trip was $1.75 that was given him in Spokane.
In order to reach Inchelium he had to cross into British Columbia to go over the mountains into the valley where his relatives are living.
He claimed that he would have surrendered at once except that he wanted to see his mother and other relatives and also claimed that having accomplished this, he gave himself up to the sheriff of Ferry County.
