INCHELIIUM - Activities between Inchelium schools and schools in other towns have been canceled as a measure to stop the spread of a mild form of diphtheria in Inchelium area, school Supt. J.W. Baylor said Friday.
He said the steps were being taken by Ferry County health officials. He said the classes in Inchelium will remain open.
Diphtheria has affected members of three families of the Hall Creek area north of Inchelium.
Children are out of school, but the families have not been quarantined.
Seven cases of diphtheria were reported in Ferry County in December, and on Dec. 21 immunizations were given to residents. On Jan. 4, a public health nurse discovered some children had diphtheria.
Kettle Falls school officials are setting up their diphtheria immunization schedule from March to early February.
