MOSCOW - Asotin High poured it on from the start and Inchelium poured it on at the end to post opening-round victories Friday night in the Washington Class B high school football playoffs.
Fifth-ranked Asotin buried Wilbur 34-0 in 11-man play, and third-ranked Inchelium rallied to edge Garfield-Palouse 14-7 in eight-man action at the Kibbie Dome.
Asotin and Inchelium, both 9-1, take on undefeated clubs next week at times and sites to be determined.
The Panthers meet top-ranked Ritzville in the B-11 quarterfinals, and Inchelium continues its title defense in the B-8 semifinals against second-ranked St. John-Endicott.
Inchelium 14, Garfield-Palouse 7: The Hornets had six fumbles and half that many turnovers, but the lone fumble and turnover by the Vikings led to the winning touchdown.
Inchelium star Van Bradeen capped an outstanding performance by pounding his way into the end zone from 3 yards out with 3:40 left to play.
The Hornets had taken possession at the Vikings' 48-yard line, when Shane McCrea recovered a fumble by freshman sensation Ricky Fisher.
Bradeen did it all for Inchelium. He rushed 15 times for 68 yards; completed two of three passes for 45 yards; made 16 tackles; caught a 42-yard pass to set up the Hornets' first score; caught a two-point conversion pass; and threw the block that allowed Jeff Vining to score on an 11-yard run in the second quarter.
"The kid played the game of his life," said Hornet coach Duane Gatlin.
Gatlin and Bradeen both praised the hustling Vikings and Fisher in particular. Fisher finished the year with 1,048 rushing yards after gaining 45 yards on 14 carries Friday, and he had a key interception while playing a strong game at free safety.
"That Ricky Fisher is going to be a heck of a player," said Bradeen.
The Vikings were led by Ed Davis with 14 tackles and Chad Palmer with 80 yards on 13 carries. Their team might have pulled off a major upset if not f or the play of Bradeen and quarterback-safety Gary Tonasket.
"I think we should have got 'em. But they're good," said Fisher, whose team held a 7-6 lead most of the game.
"We pulled this one out," Gatlin told his players, "but we can play a lot better. We stunk up the field tonight."
