Department of Interior Declares Theodore Borgeau of Inchelium not taxed at all

Representative French has bill to protect St. Joe and St. Marie Rivers in Idaho

WASHINGTON, Dec. 30 - A complaint addressed by Theodore Borgeau of Inchelium, Wash., to representative La Follette last September, charging that Indians of the Colville reservation were being illegally taxed, has been investigated by the Interior department and a report has just been made. The report says:

"The office has made an investigation and finds that the complainant is not taxed at all, but that his father is assessed on a net valuation if $535, taxes on which have been paid. It is reported that Theodore Borgeau owns over 100 head of cattle and about the same amount of other personal property as that on which his father is assessed; that none of the property assessed and being taxed has been issued by the government or purchased with money held in trust by the government; that the Borgeaus are citizen Indians who have but recently come to the reservation, having resided for several generations in Oregon."
