Dec. 1, 2006: Former Colville chairman killed in Inchelium home Nov. 27

Tribal police and FBI agents are investigating a homicide committed Nov. 27 in Inchelium.

Dead is Jude Stensgar, approximately 77, who served on the Colville Business Council from 1974 to 1986, again in 1987 and was chairman of the council in 1989.

Tribal Police Chief Rory Gilliland said that Stensgar died of a gun- shot wound during what Gilliland called a "possible domestic dispute."

Gilliland said tribal police received a 911 call about 10 a.m. and that Stensgar was dead when police arrived.

Police said Stensgar was shot in his home and that a live-in partner refused to talk to police and has since hired an attorney.

Living in the house with Stensgar was Lisa Trevino. She is not being held by police.

A granddaughter Nov. 28 said that Trevino and Stensgar were alone in the house at the time of the incident and that Trevino placed the 911 call.

Gilliland said FBI agents from Spokane were in Inchelium investigating the murder. Special Agent Stanley Meador is the lead FBI investigator.

Gilliland said he wasn't sure of the caliber of the gun, and wouldn't say if a gun had been recovered at the scene.

An autopsy was planned in Spokane.

Tribal police and the FBI are still investigating, and additional details were not available at press time.

Stensgar served in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1971, when he retired. While chairman of the Colville Business Council, Stensgar worked to develop a list of people who had served on the business council from 1938-1989.
