April 27, 1919: Mills to be erected at Garfield, Inchelium and Oroville — two in Oregon

The Community Milling Company has closed contracts in the last 10 days for the erection of five flour mills in important towns of the Inland Empire and adjoining territory, according to G.B. Muma, vice president and general manager. The total value of the contracts if $100,000.

"The contracts closed were with Oroville, Inchelium and Garfield, and Winlock and Clem, Oregon," said Mr. Muma yesterday. "The plants will be 50 barrels each, except that to be installed at Inchelium, which will be of 25-barrel capacity. They will cost $20,000 each on the average. All will be of the American Marvel type.

"Construction will begin within 30 days on the building to cover the Oroville plant, plans for which have been completed. Machinery has been ordered for the Inchelium unit and work has been started on the Garfield plant. We expect to close two important contracts in the coming week.

"We have selected two locations in Washington and two in Idaho where we will install and operate our own mills. Construction will be started as soon as the sites are obtained.

"The company has invitations from several boards of trade to discuss the installation of mills in their communities. We are opening an office in Walla Walla with J.C Hulett, E.K.K. Allen and U.G. Allen in charge, and will open offices in San Francisco, Portland and Montana, but the headquarters will remain in Spokane."
