Oct. 30, 1920: Covada Prospects

An interesting meeting of the Patriotic Club was held Sunday at which time plans were made for the road work on the new bit of road known as the marine drive, which connects Nez Perce with Inchelium without any bad hills and commands as beautiful scenery as can be found in Washington.

The merchants of Inchelium have contributed money and dynamite while the citizens of Covada and Nez Perce have given work. It is hoped that the road may be completed before the beginning of bad weather.

The Patriotic Club held an election which resulted in the election of Mrs. Jas. Parry for President, C.R. Proctor vice president, Mrs. Proctor, treasurer. Mr. Hess, the new teacher, was appointed chairman of the program committee for next meeting. Mr. Rennie was chosen chairman of the roads committee and Mr. Messenger chairman of the post office or mail service committee. Covada was unfortunate enough to lose her post office the 1st of October upon the departure of her former postmater Mr. Nickens. A petition is now being circulated asking that L.H. Howe be appointed post master.

Mr. and Mrs. Bert Parmeter are keeping house in the Nickens building while Mr. Parmeter is having work done at the Advance mine.

There are no idle men these days. Ranchers are finding this fine weather for fall plowing, mining men are busy with assessments and some are wedging in road work as they find opportunity.
