Standing in back: Mr. Durham.
At the beginning of the school year of 1946-47, seven 1950 seniors began their freshman year. They were Carol Durham, Doris Rima, Rose Holt, George Butler, Delbert Duffner, Donald Carson and George Simpson. Late that fall five more students entered. They were Lewis Boyd, Corky Nugent, Henry Judd, Tavy Gendron and Francis Charette.
We were initiated in September. Oh, what a mess! The girls had to wear ragged clothing, men's heavy work shoes, signs and garlic around their necks. That was the worst part of the whole affair. The boys were more lucky — they only had to wear aprons, make-up and hair ribbons.
We began to plan for our Senior Sneak by raffling a blanket. Tavy, Corky and Francis dropped out before the year was over. We chose class colors, flower, motto and officers as follows.
President: George Simpson
Vice President: Rose Holt
Secretary-Treasurer: Carol Durham
Reporter: Doris Rima
Advisor: Mrs. Trudell
Class Colors: Red and white
Class flower: Red rose
Motto: "When you do something good, forget it and do something better."
The first of our Sophomore year found us with an enrollment of eleven. George Gunther had joined us from Hunters, but didn't stay. Patricia DeSmeth joined us too, but she didn't stay long either. She entered Holy Names Academy in Spokane. Donald Carson joined the Army, George Simpson dropped out of school and Carol Durham became a junior. Connie Rail became one of us that year, too.
We had great fun initiating the freshmen. To raise funds we raffled a camera and a pair of spurs and sold Christmas cards. We also received a fourth of the receipts from the school play, in which Rose and Doris had roles, and Delbert and Louis were members of the stage crew.
Class officers our sophomore year were:
President: George Butler
Vice President: Rose Holt
Secretary-Treasurer: Doris Rima
Reporter: Connie Rail
Advisor: Miss Coleman
At the beginning of our junior year, our enrollment had dropped to two. Henry Judd and Rose Holt, but Rose and Henry weren't lonely long. Doris Rima, Patricia Desmeth, Louis Boyd, Delbert Duffner and George Butler joined them. At the first of the second semester, Sid Hamilton and Leo Baulne, two ex-servicemen, studying under the GI Bill of Rights, joined us.
We raffled an Air Line radio during the year. After this episode we decided never to have any more raffles! At our first dance, Christmas, we cleared $85.20. Our second dance was given April 23. After buying class rings and giving the seniors a banquet, we had approximately two hundred dollars in our treasury. We paid the Ladies Civic Club to prepare the dinner for our banquet. We ended the year with six students, since Sid and Henry quit school and Patricia discovered she could graduate with the seniors. Our class officers were:
President: Doris Rima
Vice-President: Louis Boyd
Secretary-Treasurer: Rose Holt
Reporter: Rose Holt
Advisor: Mr. Durham
