...Stevens and Ferry counties appears to be the seat of softball power in the area this year. In addition to Colville, the county boasts Kettle Falls, the defending State A Champion, and Inchelium, the defending State B Champion.
Kettle Falls, in fact defeated Inchelium 2-1 in a non-league tuneup Tuesday that left Bulldog coach Don Fox saying "Inchelium gave us all we wanted — that's why we like to play them now."
Kettle (17-1) as a Northeast A League regular season champion, awaits a finalist from the league tournament Friday at Colville's Vaagen Field.
Inchelium may have been first in the State B last year, but comes into Friday's district tourney at Medical Lake second-seeded behind Springdale.
Springdale, Inchelium, Republic and Northport represent — in that order — the four Panorama teams at district. Freeman and Liberty were to play Wednesday to decide the first and second seeds from the Bi-County League.
The six teams will play for four berths into the expanded 16-team State B Tournament May 25-26 in Walla Walla's Borleske Park.
