June 3, 1937: Coulee Dam will flood Inchelium

Variety of work projects opening up

Preparatory to the flooding of the town of Inchelium, the reclamation bureau and the CCC  camps, under the jurisdiction of the Indian service, are now operating and have employed all available men at this point.

The projects on which they are working are varied, including from timber cruising of the submersion area to the construction of roads. Work may be started this summer on the Columbia lake cleanup, a vast project in connection with the building of the dam, and one which will require much time and effort. All the obstacles such as stumps, trees or brush which might work loose and float about in the lake will have to be removed.

Like Marcus, Inchelium will have a new town site, as the old will be approximately 140 feet under water.
