Variety of projects prepare for flooding region as result of dam
INCHELIUM, May 31 - Reclamation bureau and CCC camps under the jurisdiction of the Indian service are now operating and have employed all available men at this point.
The projects vary from timber cruising of the submersion area to road construction. Much activity is anticipated this summer as it has been reported that work will start on the Columbia lake cleanup.
All trees and brush will be disposed of and all buildings removed prior to the completion of the Grand Coulee dam. Inchelium will be covered by approximately 140 feet of water. A new town site has been located.
CAR HURTS DRIVER
A car driven by Elmer Lemery was wrecked last night when Lemery fell asleep on the road between Inchelium and Kettle Falls. Lemery and other occupants of the car were taken to the hospital at Nespelem. Lemery suffered a crushed chest and possible internal injuries it was reported, while Lewis Arnold was given first aid to both knees. George Gabert suffered a broken nose and bruises.
BOY SCOUTS CHALLENGED
A team of Colville Indians here has issued a challenge to any Boy Scout organization in the Spokane area to a contest at making fire y friction during the Fourth of July Celebration. A trophy will be presented to the troop making the best showing.
SCHOOL IS OUT
School closed May 28, with a school picnic at the Disney resort, Twin Lakes. About 150 children attended and the day was spent swimming and rowing. Many catches of fish were reported. The fishing at Twin Lakes has been remarkably good this season and many limit catches have been shown.
