May 29, 1937: Celebration of Indians in July is decided

INCHELIUM, May 28 — At a meeting of the business men of Inchelium last night it was decided to sponsor an Indian celebration July 2, 3 and 4. Invitations to other reservations are being sent out and a program of Indian games and races will be announced soon.

A delegation of older Indians requested some time ago that steps be taken to perpetuate some of the old Indian customs and the business men here have chosen this method of bringing the people together. Among the features planned are an Indian village in which visiting Indians will camp, teepee races, fire by friction, races, waloux stick games and war dances.
