Sept. 19, 1923: Two lose lives in Republic fire

-Robert and Rudolph Nugent of Inchelium trapped in burning building

-Another near death

-Man probably fatally injured in futile attempt to rescue others

REPUBLIC - Two men trapped in a burning building apartment house were burned to death here early this morning and another man, who attempted their rescue, was seriously burned that there is little hope of recovery.

Robert and Rudolph Nugent, brothers, farmers of Inchelium, are dead and Helmar Holmes, who tried to save the two men, will probably die as the result of his injuries.

The building, a three-story structure, was burned to the ground. The loss is estimated at $7,000 with $2,000 insurance.
