COLVILLE, March 14 — Word has been received here from Senator Lewis B. Schwellenbach that the Indian department has made an allocation of $28,000 to provide for payment of commitments of the service to school districts in the agencies of the state.
It is believed that it will relieve the Inchelium school district of a serious financial situation, threatened by reason of a misunderstanding over a contract between the Indian service and the state, by which the Indian service agreed to pay 40 cents a day for each Indian child and 10 cents a day for lunches, but paid $100,963 for disbursement among the districts in the agencies, which did not take into consideration the school months from April to June, 1935.
The directors of the Inchelium district found expense incurred for which they believed they would be reimbursed under the commitments and it is believed the allocation now will relieve their financial situation.
