Nov. 18, 2003: Jim Boyd wins Nammy for pop rock



Area musician Jim Boyd won the Best Pop/Rock recording category at the sixth annual Natie American Music Awards.
Boyd was honored at Saturday's ceremony in Albuquerque, N.M., for his latest CD, "Live.: It was recorded with his band, Kyo-T, at the benefit concert in March at The Met in Spokane.
He also was nominated in the song/single of the year category for one of the tracks from the set, "Them Old Guitars."
Boyd was nominated for three Nammys, as the awards are known, last year and won the Record of the year for "alterNATIVES."
More than 145 recordings were submitted for consideration this year. Nominations were made by an advisory committee, with winners chosen through a membership ballot and online vote open to the general public.
Boyd, a Lakes Band Indian from the Colville Reservation, is a regular local performer and tours throughout the United States and beyond.
A frequent collaborator with author Sherman Alexie, his music was featured in the Alexie films "Smoke Signals" and "The Business of Fancydancing."
