Sept. 22, 1915: Bootlegger gets justice in hurry

-Speed marks trial of Indian who took liquor onto the reservation

Speed marked the trial this morning in the federal court of Dick Armstrong an Indian, charged with introducing liquor on an Indian reservation.

Just one minute was required for the empaneling of a jury, 40 minutes later the case was given to the jury, and 15 minutes later a verdict of guilty was returned, and the Indian was given a sentence of two months in the county jail in addition to a fine of $100.

In view of the fact that Armstrong has been in jail awaiting trial since June 26, Judge Rudkin dated the sentence as beginning at that time, so that the Indian will be set free in a few days.

Armstrong, according to the testimony, purchased a grip full of liquor and was arrested at Inchelium just after he had crossed the Columbia River to the Colville Reservation.
