-Still found on mountains was filthy
Colville customers of a mountain moonshiner may need doses of rust remover, according to federal prohibition officers who yesterday seized and destroyed an illicit still high up in the mountains above Inchelium.
Acting under orders of J.A. Linville, new deputy prohibition administrator here, the two agents forced their way over barely broke trails four miles up the mountain before locating the plant, which it is believed had been supplying a flood of booze into Colville. The still was on the Colville reservation, but officers are of the opinion the liquor had not been going to the Indians. The still, of 50-gallon capacity, was filthy, pipes were corroded and surroundings were insanitary. Three hundred gallons of mash was also destroyed.
Only by the use of pack horses could the plant have been established or its products distributed, officers said. Investigations under way with Deputy Sheriff Olson of Stevens county assisting are expected to bring the arrest of the guilty.
