July 12, 1919: Inchelium plans to rival Pendleton Round-Up

-Association to be formed to provide Wild West Program every Fourth of July

A wild west show that will be a second Pendleton Roundup is planned by the citizens of Inchelium, about 100 miles south of Spokane, on the Columbia River and just outside the Colville Indian Reservation.

"We had such a successful show on the Fourth of July," said W.F. Boehrig, a business man of Inchelium, who was in Spokane yesterday, "that the idea occurred to us to make it a permanent attraction. Plans are now underway to form an association for this purpose."

"We are ideally situated for such a show. On the Fourth we had 7,000 visitors. The river banks were lined with camping parties and the woods were filled. Of course we haven't the hotel accommodations, which makes it a strictly camping proposition, but this adds to the enjoyment and naturalness of the scene.

"We had a big Indian parade, some fine races, the usual bucking contests, steer and bull riding and similar events. A unique event was a 20-mile race between a man on horseback and two Indians in a canoe. The horse won by a half an hour."
