One person was killed yesterday afternoon when an automobile and a loaded logging truck collided in the Sunset Highway about four miles east of North Bend.
The victim was Roy A. Judd, 43 of Inchelium. He was dead on arrival at Nelems Memorial Hospital. His car was demolished in the collision, which occurred when a left front tire on the big truck blew out.
State patrol Serg. L.H. Baker and Patrolman Elwood Eby said the truck, driven by John J. Cernick, was westbound when the blowout occurred.
The big vehicle swerved over an embankment and hurtled across the eastbound lane in which Judd was driving, spilling its load of logs as Cernick tried to control it.
The truck continued across a road leading to a State Highway Department scalehouse and stopped in brush beside it. Cernick was unhurt. The truck sheared off a big poe holding a lighted directional sign.
The State Patrol said traffic was halted temporarily in the eastbound section of the highway until the logs could be removed.
