-Mrs. Mary Lloyd invited to sit at tribe council of Colville members
Mrs. Mary Lloyd, a Lake Indian and well known for her work in promoting the interests and relieving the distress of Indians in this section, has received a signal honor from the Colville Tribe. She has been asked to sit in the tribe council at Inchelium December 23.
This is the first time so far as known that a woman has ever been asked to sit at such a council.
The invitation was extended by James Bernard, chief of the north half of the Colville Reservation, and by Peter Noyes and Little Aleck of the tribe.
OKANOGAN INVITES
Mrs. Lloyd also has been invited to come to a meeting of the Okanogan Tribe. Chief B. Tommentoe having asked her to attend the sessions at St. Mary's Mission in Omak. She will probably go there after the session of the Colvilles.
Mrs. Lloyd is issuing a call for money and old clothes for the Indians of the Colville Reservation.
"During the war the Indians helped the Red Cross society in many ways. Now the Indians deserve and need help," she said.
Mrs. Lloyd asks that money and clothing for the Indians be left at the Chronicle office. Clothing and other articles should be plainly marked, "For Mrs. Mary Lloyd" in order that they may not be included in donations for the Good fellows or for the state institutions at Medical Lake. As president of the Eagle Feathers' Club, Mrs. Lloyd has been soliciting aid for the needy aborigines and reports that the response has been generous.
As she leaves for Colville Thursday, contributions of money, clothes and other articles should be sent promptly.
